About Me

photo 7bbe22b3-69b9-4268-a3a9-eade7b73982b_zpsf043c37d.jpg Hello there ladies (and gents!) :) My name is Jessica! I'm an 18 year old college student. I adopted a vegan diet at the start of 2013 and have no intentions of going back. Another thing you should know is I am a competitive runner. I'm on my school's crosscountry team. Running is my biggest passion in life along with nutrition. I want to live a healthy lifestlye that includes fitness, food, and self love. <3 Photobucket
Cardio for the day is done! :) I went a little earlier in the day and felt A LOT better. Runs in 100 degrees are not fun! It was probably in the 80’s when I ran :)
Anyways just over 3 miles for today! I’ve got to build back up slow so that I don’t get injured or burn out! As much as I want to push my mileage and the pace, I need to be smart about my training so that I’ll be healthy for XC in the fall.
Came back from my run and immediately jumped in the pool and did like 5 minutes of aqua jogging and a couple laps to cool down my legs a bit. Now I’m just sitting in my lazy boy chair and enjoying my backyard :)

Trying to stay positive

Sometimes I get discouraged because it was only 2 months ago that I was able to run 12 miles at a 7:44 pace and now I’m struggling to get in a few miles at 8:30 pace. I know that it’s consistency that will get me back to where I was. Being in that walking boot and then just being lazy from end of the year stress really affected my running.

But on the bright side, it will be really cool to document how long it takes me to get back to where I was just 9 short weeks ago :) I can do it! I will work hard every day to show my coach, and myself, how great of a runner I can be :D

Hey there ladies and gents :) just finished my Saturday morning long run! I opted out of going at 7:30 with my teammates because I really wanted this time to myself and my thoughts :) it was a really nice run. I started out nice and relaxed and slowly picked it up throughout the whole thing and finished my last mile faster than all the others. The first half I was pretty much running into the wind (which sucked) and then the way back it was hitting me from the side (almost equally annoying). But I was determined to get back and keep my pace. I almost stopped at 7 miles but I was like, why not just finish the loop! So I did and now I feel amazing ^_^
Hope all of your Saturdays are going well! And thank you for all of the kind words I’ve been getting in my inbox. They mean more than you’ll ever know. Xoxo Jess

Friday workout :)

3 miles easy (probably around 7:50-8:00 pace)
Then run to the track.
1200 hard (4:17)
400m jog
400 hard (1:14)
3/4 mile cool down
Stretching

I’m surprised at myself on the track stuff. When Sean told me I had to get sub 4:30 I immediately told myself “no way, you can’t do it. You just ran 3 miles and you think you’ll be able to run sub 6 minute mile pace?”
But then I just calmed my mind down and said “hey those 3 miles were easy, and yeah this is going to be hard but you can totally do it!”
And guess what….I DID.(obviously) and I got 13 seconds under my goal. Oh AND usually I have problems with breathing and I’m huffing and puffing at the end, but there was none of that. I felt good and, as Sean would say, like I went comfortably hard ^_^
Moral of the story. I need to keep believing in myself a little more so that I can keep lowering my times and feeling better about my mentality with fast paced workouts and racing :)

Always icing some part of my legs. After a track workout yesterday and hills today, my quads were begging for some attention. Also enjoying a fruit salad for my post workout/pre dinner snack :)

Workout Wednesday! Okay I work out everyday pretty much…but today was track day! And because I didn’t wake up early and go with my teammates, I had to challenge myself and do this on my own. It’s a lot harder than it looks/sounds.
I was pleasantly surprised that I improved my times in the second set! Usually, if I’m by myself, I slow down or don’t do the whole workout. But today I worked through the negative thoughts and pushed myself! :)
“You only regret the runs you don’t go on.”

Heat therapy, calf massage, stretching, and whirlpool. That’s what I’m talking about! :D I love being a college athlete, free massage ;D

I used the mapmyrun app on my phone today and these were the splits for my run :) I’m pleasantly surprised that I am able to keep such a consistent pace! Also that I was able to do my last mile 20 seconds faster than the rest :D
First day back into it and I’m kinda happy with how it’s going :)
